[comp.windows.misc] SUMMARY: ASCII Menu Packages

snoopy@ixos.de (12/21/90)

Dear Net,

a while ago (November) I posted a query regarding ASCII menu packages.
I got a few replies and would like to thank the following people:

terry@pride386.uucp
Larry Williamson (larry@focsys.uucp)

Thank you for responding - you really helped.

Terry immediately sent some source code written by Mark Marsh, mark@siva.uucp.
Thats service for you ! Thanks Terry. I will gladly forward the source code
if anyone needs it, however I will on holidays 22nd Dec -> 6th January so
please be patient with my answer, should you ask for a copy.

Larry pointed me towards a commercial product:-

"A few months back we were looking for just such a system. What we
settled on was C-Scape from a company called 'The Oakland Group'
located in the Boston area of Mass. (USA).

We chose C Scape because it was available for Miser-Dos, Unix and QNX.
The QNX requirement turns out to be not that valuable, but it was an
issue then. They also have versions for VMS, and ???

The advertise in Unix World and Unix Review and probably others too.

Oakland Group (FAX) (617) 868-4440
Oakland Group 675 Massachussetts Avenue, Cambridge, MA 02139 (617) 491-7311

Their product is good.

There are some others to choose from. Some place called JAYACC?? You
will have to search for some advertising in the popular computer rags
for their address, but it is somewhere in New York. Another package
called Vermont Views is available. Both of these are Unix (and maybe
ms-dos too?).

Both of these were reviewed in a recent issue of Unix Review (6-9
months back I think?). From the review, I think that Vermont Views was
the better package, but I've seen conflicting opinions on that."

Again remember that in case of doubt, Larry speaks for himself and not
Focus Automation.

Love,
Have a merry X-Mas, a cool Yule and a happy New Year !
Snoopy (Sebastian)
PS On holiday from 22nd December till 6th January
