From: Bill.Lampeter I am currently pressed with the problem of deciding between Sun and Apollo. Several months ago I posted some questions about these companies and got essentially three responses. One was from someone at utah-cs who was pleased with Apollo - naturally it (DN-600) seems to be a superb system for graphics. The other replies dealt with Sun. One person was going to buy Sun and the other person (bears the name of a prominent computer scientist) owns one. The owner of the Sun had had some problems with his machine which he claims were remedied by Sun; his was a very early model. I have found Apollo (Jack Schulman, NY office) very responsive and aggressive, while Sun has been rather meek and unresponsive. I would prefer to believe that Sun is very busy as they are a new business and hence somewhat slow to respond, while Apollo is a conglomeration of persons who have been around Route 128 for a while (i.e. old salts). I am told that Sun has just gotten a new president - from the Rte 128 school (DEC). As Sun/Apollo owners, what have been your experiences with these companies? Would you recommend them to anyone? I will post the results of this survey - if I get sufficient responses. More than 5 responses to each system will constitute "sufficient." Your net address will be included with a summary of your response. You may contact me in person (716) 275-5101. Bill Lampeter Laboratory for Laser Energetics University of Rochester PS - I spoke with John Gage, Director of Marketing at Sun this afternoon - after I had written this. He assured me that they are *very* busy and painted a picture of a capable company that is experiencing growing pains. However, I am still interested in your experiences with Sun and Apollo.
