Could someone explain why the names of some groups are singular and others plural? For example, there is net.: bicycle, cycle, flame, puzzle, micro, railroad, rec.boat, sport,... but also net.: books, consumers, cooks, games, jokes, kids,... This has led me to posting mistakes--recoverable, but annoying, since postnews doesn't check the newsgroup directly but rather lets inews do it. PUT DOWN THAT TORCH. I'm not suggesting that it be changed, but I'd like to know how it came about, and whether there's some mnemonic device that I'm missing that would help me remember. -- ...Are you making this up as you go along? It's simple. There has never been an attempt at consistency on the net, and the topics were created with whatever name whoever created them thought was most appropriate. Some of us like plurals, and some of us don't. chuq -- From under the bar at Callahan's: Chuq Von Rospach {amd70,fortune,hplabs,menlo70}!nsc!chuqui (408) 733-2600 x242 Never give your heart to a stranger, unless you are sure that you are dead.
