[net.news.group] On the use of unix-wizards

jack@vu44.UUCP (Jack Jansen) (04/24/84)

Since the three-monthly discussion about splitting unix-wizards
is starting again, let me throw in my 10 cents of nonsense.
I think the problem with unix-wizards is that many people
use it as a second group in their posting. This has been the
case with the "NULL vs 0" discussion (and is also true for
*lots* of other articles from net.lang.c), and with articles
concerning bugs. It believe that if you post something to
net.bugs.4bsd, you shouldn't post it to net.unix-wizards.
Those wizards that are interested in 4.* will read net.bugs.4bsd
too, so they will see the article, and those that are v7 or
S5 wizards probably won't have anything sensible to say on the
subject. If we can find a way to stop these postings to multiple
groups, the volume will be *much* lower, and probably more
interesting to more people. Wasn't unix-wizards the place
where the gurus pondered over their high affairs (or something
like that)? Let's try and make it that again.
