[comp.os.os9] GCC under OS9...help anyone???

binkley@skipper.dfrf.nasa.gov (Rob -Not from Bloom County- Binkley) (05/30/90)

Well the diff for GCC under OS9/68K was posted a few days ago in the
newsgroup comp.sources.misc. I'm trying to get this going...

Yesterday I finally got the diff file out of the posted patches. What you
have to do is edit the header out of the first file, then cat the rest of
the files on to the end of the first one and then run the shar file.
I have the diff if'n you need it...lemme know.

OK...then I applied the diff. Since OS9 doesn't allow '-' in fienames,
they all need to be translated to '_'. OK...I got that far... The diff
file applied fine.

I then moved the files to my OS-9/68K system. About 7 Megs of data.

Then I ran the make. It needed bison for OS9...so I drug up my TOPS
package and installed bison. OK so far...

I re-ran the make. Bison worked...but then the first file compiled failed.
...some problem with illegal bitfields in tree.h ...

I really, really would like to get this running...I need a good
optimizing compiler.

Any help or hints would be greatly appreciated... If I (or someone else)
can get this compiled, I can make it available, along with the TOPS 2.0
package available via anonymous FTP temporarily...If there are interested
parties out there...
