I seem to be having a little bit of trouble running the emacs that comes with the TOP package in the USR/CMDS directory. It seems to load up and run, but nothing ever comes up on the screen... I have tried several different terminal types (by setting TERM env variable), but with no success. Any ideas? Thanks, Russell Hoffman rh2y+@andrew.cmu.edu Carnegie Mellon University ----------------

Any ideas? >Thanks, >Russell Hoffman >rh2y+@andrew.cmu.edu >Carnegie Mellon University >---------------- This is the second report I've heard about problems with emacs from TOP (as distributed from smilodon) today. So, since I'm still without an OSK machine of my own, I need to ask: has anyone made emacs from smilodon work? If so, when did you download it, and what kind of system was it? Any feedback might help me track it down for everyone. Thanks, --- Jim (ftp administrator for smilodon.cs.wisc.edu) pruyne@cs.wisc.edu

I found that with several of the TOP programs I needed to recompile to get proper output - not sure where the discrepancy was, perhaps some difference in a library call used. Regarding emacs, V3.11 Beta is now available for FTP (see comp.emacs) - while OS-9 hasn't been incorporated as a standard platform, I have it on good authority that it can be recompiled for OS-9 rather easily by modifying the input.c and unix.c files. -- ############################################################################## # Bill Sheppard -- bills@microware.com -- {uunet, sun}!mcrware!mwca!bill # # Microware Systems Corporation --- OS-9: Seven generations beyond OS/2!! # ######Opinions expressed are my own, though you'd be wise to adopt them!######

But I don't have it from smilodon, so it might be a xfer failure. BCNU, Marc

Well, I don't think there are anonymous FTP sites in Germany the have the TOP software online. There are of course some universities that have anonymous FTP (like ira.uk.de). And the TOP group has also no direct link to the internet.
