I just heard a strong rumor that Sun Microsystems has been purchased by Computervision. Apparently ComputerVision wanted to buy a large number of workstations from either Apollo or Sun, but wanted a controlling, or near-controlling interest in the manufacturer first. After Apollo turned down their offer to buy 40% of the company, they approached Sun. Can anyone confirm this? Will Sun comment on this through the miracle of electronic networking? And what does this mean to the clutch of UNIX Gurus working there? (Joy, Shannon, Croft, etc) S. McGeady Tektronix, Inc. P.s. - Remember folks, you heard it here first!

Not exactly true. ComputerVision and Sun have signed a many- millions-of-dollars contract that has us supplying them with workstations for the next three years. There is also a clause about "technology exchange". ComputerVision got a very small piece of equity in Sun. I've heard there was actually a press release at SigGraph that gave more details of the agreement. I will try to dig it up and post it. Bill Shannon Sun Microsystems, Inc.
