[comp.os.os9] OS-9 on Ethernet with a CISCO box

balmer@urz.unibas.ch (05/13/91)

Has anyone out there ever tried to route an OS-9 net on ethernet via
a CISCO box? We are using this kind of network, but since we connected
a CISCO box to our ethernet, we are no longer able to run OS-9 net.

It seems that the CISCO box interprets some of the OS-9/NFM packets an
tries to respond.

Anyone heard of this already?

I don't know what Microware's protocols look like, but I strongly
suspect that they have their own ethernet type code (rather than being
built upon a network-layer protocol such as IP). As such, you can only
bridge NFM, not route it. If your cisco does not support bridging,
you're probably out of luck.
