[comp.os.os9] CKERMIT FOR OS-9

akermanis@troa02.enet.dec.com (John Akermanis) (06/13/91)

Is there by any chance a version CKermit for OS-9 which supports extended
packets (2000 bytes). The only version I am aware of only supports the 90 byte
packets.

Yes, we have a kermit, which was originally a version for UNIX. It can
handle extended packets, but the length is limited to 1000 bytes for
either send or get (I don't know which). We've got this kermit from
a ftp-server in the USA (which ???). If I don't find the address of the
ftp-server, I can send you the source and/or executable. Just write a mail.

The version of C-kermit that I uploaded to smilodon.cs.wisc.edu, as
far as I know, will support extended-length packets. I have used it
successfully with a packet-length of 500, anyway. I have not tried 2000,
although I would suspect it should work. The source and executables
are on smilodon in the /pub/OSK/TELECOMM directory.

C-Kermit 4f was never officially out of beta-test, but is available
from watsun.cc.columbia.edu in the kermit/test directory and includes
osk support. Long packets is one of the features new to 4f. It's the
version I would recomend to anyone wanting kermit for osk. (I'm not
unbiased, one of the other versions available was not done by me :-)

5a is still in alpha test, and none of the started ports to osk have
been completed and sent to columbia. (At least 3 separate starts were
made.) Sliding windows is one of the features new to 5a.

Thanks for the pointers to C-KERMIT (4F) files. I have copied the require files
for OS-9/OSK as per the makefile. I have had the VMS version for awhile now and
am quit happy with it. It will be nice to be able to send extended packets which
should improve the time required to xfer files.

Thanks.........

Could you mail me the CKermit VAX/VMS sources? We have lots of "modern"
software on our OS-9 systems, but our VAX is still in the middle-age...

Thanks, Marc
