[comp.os.os9] OS-9 lv 1 on Coco 3

ajl3578@cs.rit.edu (Anthony J Leccese) (06/19/91)

Can someone tell me if and how to boot OS-9 lv 1 on a Coco3? All I have gotten
it to do is give the OS-9 BOOT message and then it locks up. It did work fine
on my Coco2 though. Thanks.

P.S.
If anyone knows of a Radio Shack that has a copy of OS-9 lv 2 in stock,
please let me know their address.

Unless it is OS-9 Level I V2.* it will not boot on a COCO III, but putting that
a side, your better off will OS-9 Level II on a COCO III.

Good luck on this one at a Rip Shack store. You should get a copy of a current
issue of the Rainbow and order it from one of many vendors who advertise in the
Rainbow magazine.

You'll need either:

a) OS9 LI V2.0 or

b) To hack the BOOT module (if I remember correctly) to start loading
   below $FE00 instead of $FF00.

The problem is that in the coco3, there's a vector page that runs from
$FE00 to $FF00. This is where interrupts are revectored from. This
didn't exist in the coco2's and coco's. Os9 LI version 1.x loaded the
kernel (track 34) from $FF00-1 and down. This would clobber the vector
page. V2.0 of LI booted at $FE00-1 and down.

When the price went down to $9.95, I bought the last copy my store
had for the purpose of helping someone like you out. If you want it,
it's yours. Send me mail.
