From: Steven T. Kirsch <SK @ MIT-MC> The Keytronics mouse is pretty neat and will indeed run on any surface without using any moving parts. The mouse was invented by the former chairman of Summagraphics who is now chairman of Display Interface Corp in Milford, CT. It was exclusively licensed to Keytronics. However, you can't have your cake and eat it too: 1. Repeatability is poor (this is analogous to mechanical slippage) 2. The resolution depends on how hard you press down on the mouse (e.g., moving the mouse while a button is pressed vs. released). 3. The resolution depends on what kind of surface it is on (slicker surfaces gives lower resolution). 4. Noise on the desktop (moving a keyboard, tapping a pencil) may cause the mouse to move. The price is about the same as optical mice. In fairness, it should be noted that I work for Mouse Systems.
