RABBIT MARKETS 3270 AND RJE EMULATORS TO END USERS Rabbit Software Corporation, the Malvern, PA-based data communications company, announced the availability of end-user versions of its 3270- PLUS and RJE-PLUS software products. Since their introduction in 1984, 3270-PLUS and RJE-PLUS have been primarily marketed to large OEMs such as IBM and UNiSYS. Today's announcement marks Rabbit's initial direct product offering to end users. The 3270-PLUS product enables an IBM PC AT (or compatible) to emulate all three types of IBM 3270 devices that make up the IBM 3270 family: terminal, printer, and controller. The RJE-PLUS product enables an IBM PC AT to emulate an IBM 3770 SNA Remote Job Entry workstation. Both 3270-PLUS and RJE-PLUS will operate under XENIX or Microport Sys- tem V/AT on an IBM PC AT with the ability to run both concurrently over the same data link. 3270-PLUS SNA and RJE-PLUS SNA are available for immediate distribu- tion. Suggested retail price for single unit purchases is $995.00 for 3270-PLUS SNA and $695.00 for RJE-PLUS SNA with quantity discounts available for both. Contact Rabbit for availability and pricing of 3270-PLUS BSC, which allows 3270 communications using IBM's bisynchro- nous protocol. Features/Benefits Unique to All Rabbit Products o Multi-user support -- both products may be used on the AT system console, or from a terminal attached to the AT. In addition, on SCO XENIX and System V/AT, the products may be used from one or more of the "virtual screens." o System/user profiles -- editable files that allow you to easily define your local configuration (e.g., device type, terminal types, printer types) and other characteristics not only as they appear to the host computer but also as they relate to Rabbit's unique "PLUS" features. o Online HELP Facility -- context-specific HELP screens are avail- able at any point of operation. 3270-PLUS Features/Benefits o Multi-session -- allows a single terminal to initiate up to six concurrent 3270 sessions, allowing you to log onto multiple host applications simultaneously. o Suspend/Resume -- allows you to rapidly switch between local and host applications, without terminating host sessions. o ScreenToFile and ScreenToPrinter -- captures screen data and directs it to either a local file, a spooler, or a print device. o Browse -- allows you to review the contents of previously displayed screen data. o Menu-driven User Interface -- 3270-PLUS offers a set of menus that simplify product operation. o Programmer Interface Modules (PIM) -- enables user-developed applications to interact with the host without operator interven- tion. o Concurrent Operation with Rabbit RJE-PLUS SNA. RJE-PLUS Features/Benefits o IBM RJE Emulation -- provides all standard (and many optional) workstation features, including compression, decompression, decompaction, multipoint or point-to-point communication, unat- tended operation, status display, and error posting. o Operator console emulation -- In conjunction with the operator console, the Browse feature allows you to review previously displayed console data. o Job Queue Management -- provides a convenient method of schedul- ing jobs for transmission to the host. o Segmented Batch Transmission -- allows chaining of multiple files for batch transmission to the host. o Output Routing -- simplified routing of job results to a file, a spooler, or a print device. o Format Control -- permits pre-definition of the format of printed output. o Menu-driven User Interface or Shell Commands -- an extensive set of menus simplify product operation. Jobs can also be initiated or cancelled using simple shell commands. o Concurrent operation with 3270-PLUS SNA. 3270-PLUS and RJE-PLUS Software Requirements o IBM PC XENIX OR o Microport System V/AT OR o SCO XENIX (Contact Rabbit for required releases of each OS.) 3270-PLUS and RJE-PLUS Hardware Requirements o IBM PC AT (or compatible) o 1 Mbyte of Memory (more for SystemV/AT or for concurrent opera- tion of both products) o One 1.2 Mbyte Floppy Disk Drive o One 20 Mbyte (or larger) Fixed Disk Drive o IBM Synchronous Data Link Communication (SDLC) Adaptor Card NOTE: The IBM SDLC Adaptor Card and the serial portion of the IBM Serial/Parallel Adaptor Card use the same interrupt vectors. Instal- lation of 3270-PLUS SNA or RJE-PLUS SNA will disable the serial port. o If you wish to attach asynchronous terminals to your IBM PC AT, you will require an asynchronous card that does not use the same interrupts as the IBM SDLC card. A full line of communications products, including "PLUS" product source code, 3270 controllers, and DOS-based 3270 and 3770 LAN- compatible emulators, are available from Rabbit.
