[comp.newprod] Troff and PostScript Typesetting Services via uucp

tim@ora.UUCP (Tim O'Reilly) (07/16/87)

O'Reilly & Associates, Inc., publishers of the Nutshell
Handbooks, is pleased to announce our new PostScript
typesetting services. We're using a Linotronic
L100 typesetter with a resolution of 1270 lines per inch,
and can accept source files via uucp or on Macintosh disks.

If you're already using a PostScript-compatible laser
printer such as the Apple LaserWriter, typesetting on the
Linotronic is a snap. You can preformat the file with
ditroff and your favorite ditroff-to-PostScript
postprocessor. Page breaks and other layout features
are identical, so you can proof your own work.

If you don't have a PostScript printer, you'll need to get
ditroff width tables from us. You can either proof the
output on a non-PostScript laser printer (the output might
look lousy because the width-tables don't match the actual
fonts, but the line and page breaks will be accurate)
or can get laser proofs from us.

Rates range from $6-8/page for preformatted PostScript files,
and from $8-15/page for troff source files, depending on
quantity. We also offer annual contracts based on volume for
corporate clients.

Macro design and consulting services (including integration
of Mac illustrations into ditroff source files) are available.

Call or e-mail to request a booklet giving more details on
what you need to do to get started.
