ACE C VALIDATION SUITE ACE, a prominent european UNIX software house, is pleased to announce that their C Validation Suite, already in use at several major computer companies, is now commercially avail- able. The ACE C Validation suite checks the compliance of a C com- piler to the ANSI X3J11 draft standard. This includes the machine independent part of the library specification. The ACE Validation Suite can also test library functions for conformance to the X/OPEN standard or the SVID where these differ from their draft standard counterparts. The suite supports the validation of cross-compilers. The suite consists of over 50000 lines of source in about 600 different programs together performing over 2000 tests. Tests include checks for known problems in several existing C compilers. The structure of the validation suite closely follows that of the ANSI draft, that is, all test for a specific para- graph of the draft are grouped together in one directory. The suite is updated frequently to maintain conformance to the ANSI draft standard, and is continuously being extended. A user-friendly interface is available to control the vali- dation. This interface makes it easy to to run only selected parts of the suite and to set parameters such as compiler and loader flags. Other options include control- ling the "verboseness" of the output and automatically com- paring the output to a reference (e.g. a previous validation run). The ACE C Validation suite is priced at 15500 dutch guilders (currently approximately $7500).
