[comp.newprod] Introducing the Fluke 1030 Series

usenet@mcdchg.UUCP (10/22/87)

John Fluke Mfg. Co., Inc. is introducing the 1030 Series of Touch Control
Screens (TCS). The 1030 Series combines touchscreen technology with
specialized video display terminal capability in an industrially hardened
package to provide a keyboardless computer interface for operators in a
production environment.

Along with supporting standard ANSI terminal commands, the TCS supports a
set of specialized commands that provide the following capabilities:

o Total Display Memory (tm) - The ability to store complete, functioning
screens locally in the 1030. Using a special compression algorithm the
1030 can store about 70 "average size" screens. Switching from screen to
    screen is virtually instantaneous.

o Touch programming - Complete "touchkeys" (targets for touch interaction)
of any size can be easily created, complete with visual borders and
attributes. In addition, touchkeys can be programmed to be of varying
types (press, auto-repeat, toggle, or dead) and to automatically respond
visually and audibly when touched, providing instant feedback. All
touchkey programming is saved with each stored screen.

o Communications monitor - A special mode is provided which allows the
programmer to monitor all communications between the TCS and the host,
    providing a powerful debugging tool.

o Dynamic character fonts - The programmer can create a character font and
directly load it into the 1030 for custom character display.

o Multidrop communications - The 1030 supports RS-485 communications,
allowing up to 32 units to be daisy-chained on the same serial cable to
    the host computer.

o Barcharts - A special command can be used to draw barcharts on the 1030
display. All that is required of the programmer is to specify how tall
the bar is and what percentage it should be filled.

o XON/XOFF mode - software handshaking, XON/XOFF, can be selectively
    activated or suppressed.

o Status I/O - The 1030 provides six bi-directional digital I/O lines.
