Mas Network Software is pleased to announce the release of MaS-Protect version 1.0. This is an implementation of a executable security system for IBM PC/XT/AT. This system will ensure that all your executable files can only be run on your machine. This allows easy setup of a software evaluation system without having to take out your floppy drive, so people can't steal your software. Maybe your network doesn't come with any file protection and you want to licence some software for the network. Well now you can guarantee them that the software is encrypted and is not copyable. It consists of one or two of the following two products: MaS-RProtect - ROM based, serialized protection MaS-DProtect - Device Driver based protection The ROM can be inserted in any ROM socket which is scanned during the bootup phase. Most clones have sockets on the motherboard which work fine for this. Pretty well any ROM which can fit in a motherboard socket or a ROM card socket or a network card socket can be used. The Device Driver technique requires that you have some sort of hardware which has a unique number that can be read by the device driver. For example a 3COM 3C501 etherlink card has a burned unique address and therefore doesn't require a ROM chip. With this technique each executable (up to 255) can be given a number and each hardware address (or ROM serial number) is given execute permission on only the correct executable file numbers.
