Macro Computer Solutions, Inc. is proud to announce our latest version of AKCS, V3.3, incorporating the changes and improvements that our users and customers have asked for. AKCS is a comprehensive BBS/messaging system supporting fully-threaded operation. The system is based on the 'item' model, with responses being kept with the parent item. In addition, linkage with other systems is supported, permitting wide area distribution of message content (much like Usenet). Our current release supports these important enhancements: o Linkage of any conference with any other system running AKCS V2.0 or above. This linkage is completely transparent to the user, with the end result being that your system becomes just a node in a rapidly-growing network of systems running AKCS. Linkage is completely configurable on a conference-by-conference basis. o Full moderation capability for those conferences which should be run as a moderated forum of discussion. AKCS fully supports mailpaths to the moderator for those sites which are distant from the actual moderator's home site. Moderation may be set individually for each conference. o An 'options' screen which allows users to customize the operation of AKCS to suit their needs without knowing anything about the Unix environment. Several user options have been added to make it easier for the first-time user to become acclimated with the AKCS bbs system. o Restricted conferences, which are completely invisible to non-authorized users. Authorized users are not affected. AKCS makes use of both a 'deny' and an 'allow' file for the greatest flexibility in such arrangements. o A utility to port Picospan conference to the new AKCS interchange format. o A publically-available interchange format for the exchange of messages with other systems, making possible links to other BBS systems in the future as desired by end users or MCS. (Contact MCS for a copy of the specification for message interchange). o A 'show' command which displays important conference parameters. o Greatly increased performance. o A full-screen utility, AKCSMAINT, has been added for the utmost in simplicity of maintenace. Conference creation, deletion, link management, and all other facets of maintenance may be performed from this utility program using a simply 'point and shoot' interface. o Interfaces with our companion product, ELBS, providing file Up/Download access in an easy-to-use and understand format. ELBS can run in either a full-screen or text mode, depending on the user's terminal setting. AKCS V3.3 is available on Microport 'installit' media, as well as the AT&T 3b1/7300.
