November 17, 1987 -- Apollo Computer Inc. and Information Presentation Technologies, Inc. (IPT) will market uShare, a communications product that provides for the integration of Apple Macintosh computers with Apollo workstations. uShare is the industry's first full commercial implementation of the Apple Filing Protocols (AFP) in a UNIX workstation environment. uShare enables Apollo workstations to communicate with Macintoshes, and allows Macintosh users to share Apollo's networked resources, including file sharing, electronic mail, print spooling, terminal emulation, and virtual disk capabilities, as well as network and local search and application independent voice annotation. uShare is comprised of software which resides on both the Apollo and Macintosh systems and an IBM PC/AT-compatible card which resides in a Apollo Series 3000(tm) Personal Workstation(tm) or Series 4000(tm) Personal Super Workstation(tm), connecting Apollo workstations to an AppleTalk network.
