rgc@edison.GE.COM (GENIUS Open Architecture) (05/18/88)
the GENIUS I/O Bus has been in existence for about 2 years now. It consists of 32 "smart" modules hanging from a coaxial cable which can be up to 10000 feet in length (that's right, 10000 feet). These modules can comunicate to their controller at 3 baud rates, 153 KBaud, 76 KBaud, and 38 KBaud. There are several different modules available to perform I/O: 8, 16 and 32 point discrete and several types of analog modules. These modules are fully configurable and have the capability to report faults and other diagnostic information back to their controller. Controllers for this bus exist for PLCs, but the best part is that there is a PC Board for MS DOS that can be used as a controller. The user can operate the bus using C, or assembler (or BASIC) languages to develop the control algorithms. In the future, we will have controller boards for DEC's industrial microvax. If anyone is interested in any details of the bus, they can contact me at the address below. I believe that you'll be surprisingly pleased with the results.
