SANTA CRUZ OPERATION LICENSES LOCUS X WINDOW SYSTEM PRODUCTS The Santa Cruz Operation, Inc. (SCO), has reached an agreement with Locus Computing Corporation to license Locus' X Window System Version 11.2 products. The agreement includes two products --SCO Xsight, a complete X Window System product that will run on SCO XENIX 386, and PC Xsight, an X Window System server product that enables DOS computers to utilize the same graphical windowing interface as applications running on SCO Xsight. SCO Xsight and PC Xsight based on Locus Computing Corporation's Xsight Window System family help turn networked, stand-alone, and multiuser microcomputers into high-performance, high-resolution, multitasking graphics workstations. Both Locus products are based on the X Window System, originally developed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and now accepted as the industry-standard windowing system for technical workstations. With SCO Xsight, users can easily invoke, visually monitor, and control multiple concurrent SCO XENIX processes on one or any number of network-controlled systems. Additionally, because both SCO Xsight and PC Xsight use the X Window System protocol, the application's graphical windowing interface is accessible on the host SCO XENIX system or across the network on either DOS or SCO XENIX machines. SCO will begin shipping SCO Xsight and PC Xsight in the first quarter of 1989. To use the Xsight products in a networked environment, TCP/IP software and hardware will also be required. The initial releases of SCO Xsight and PC Xsight will include support for VGA, EGA, and Hercules graphics adapters.
