ANNOUNCING UNIX MICRONODE IBM 3270 DEVICE EMULATION FOR 386-PC'S OTTAWA, Canada, October 31, 1988 - Xicom Products Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Xicom Technologies Corporation, announced at UNIX EXPO in New York City, the immediate availability of UNIX MicroNode, a IBM 3270/SNA Emulation software package available for 386-AT-type computers running System V/386. UNIX MicroNode features 3278 Display Emulation, 3287 Printer Emulation, and support of 3270-PC File Transfer with IBM Mainframes running TSO, CICS and VM/CMS, over an SDLC link running SNA. The communications overhead is off-loaded to an intelligent serial communications card, which has full 3274 Controller Emulation capability. A combination of up to 32 sessions of Display and Printers are supported. There are 8, 16, and 32 session packages available. Each UNIX terminal can initiate up to eight 3270 sessions concurrently; you can escape from any of the 3270 sessions to the UNIX shell and perform local processing without affecting the 3270 sessions. User-developed applications can interface directly to the 3270 sessions with an IBM 3270-PC HLLAPI interface library. The 3270-PC File Transfer Utility allows you to transfer binary and text files to and from the host using the IBM standard Send/Receive program (IND$FILE). The 3287 Printer Emulation supports printing to files, piping to the lp spool, and other commands. It may be run in either of an interactive or background mode. It supports both the 3270 Data Stream Character Set (DSC) and the SNA Character Set (SCS). User-friendly installation and configuration facilities give you the flexibility of defining the configuration for each of the 32 sessions supported. UNIX MicroNode Release 1.0 is presently supplied in packages for the following versions of System V/386: - 386/ix from Interactive Systems Corporation, - Microport System V/386. Xicom Products can provide packages for other versions of System V/386. Xicom has provided IBM SNA software solutions since 1981, the year the company was founded. With the introduction of UNIX MicroNode, Xicom Products Corporation complements its current offering of cost-effective 3270/SNA solutions for the MS-DOS and QNX operating systems. Xicom has versions of its software running on most computer architectures, and has provided its software under OEM contract to many computer vendors. UNIX MicroNode is available from Xicom Products directly, and through System V/386 vendors.
