Several exciting new developments in long distance data communications have been introduced by Barrister Associates, Incorporated. Chief Executive Officer Theodore Rosenbaum announced the formation of a new educational and business network. The International Informational Network, or I2 (said I-squared) Network, will link all of Barrister Associates educational and business clients to a new electronic news/mail distribution and conferencing facility in Bloomington, Minnesota. "By providing improved access to international news and mail services, our clients will be able to obtain the latest news and information with a much faster method of delivery," said Rosenbaum. In addition, Mr. Rosenbaum announced a partnership with long distance provider MCI Telecommunications Corporation that will enable many businesses and education facilities access to superb quality data transmission lines at greatly reduced rates. Through an agreement with MCI, Barrister Associates will establish at its Bloomington office a toll-free 800 line through which clients can access the I2 Network. By billing clients for long distance time, Barrister Associates will greatly reduce the amount spent by an institution on conventional long distance. "This will represent a substantial savings for all clients involved in the I2 Network," said Rosenbaum. In addition to the I2 Network, Barrister Associates is proud to annouce its association with UseNet, an international, electronic mail and news service. By providing a gateway between the I2 Network and UseNet, Barrister Clients will have access to the latest news and information. UseNet is world-wide in scope, providing network news and information on a variety of subjects. These topics include discussions on computer issues, elementary education, recreational activities and international society and culture. These are only a very small sample of the information available on UseNet. Educational administrators and instructors at many institutions throughout the world have realized the value of being able to share ideas and expressions through such a vast network. Barrister Associates is eager to share this information with many other institutions, and our association with MCI will make this much more economical for many educational facilities. By utilizing the latest technology in data transmission, Barrister Associates will install Telebit modems in its Bloomington facility. By pushing the envelope of telecommunications, the company will be able to provide error-free and extremely fast transmission of data. "Our clients will appreciate that we can save them up to 75% of long distance time by upgrading and using the Telebit modems," said Rosenbaum. "Imagine sending data at the conventional rate of 2400 baud. An hour of data transmission at that rate would only require 15 minutes with the Telebit modems. We think this development will blow open the floodgates of electronic information for many more business and educational facilities."
