FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Intergraph Corporation Introduces New CLIPPER-Based Workstation; Features 27", 2 Megapixel Display Technology Huntsville, Alabama, October 26, 1988--Intergraph Corporation announced today a new engineering workstation, the InterPro 3070. The 3070 incorporates a new, large 27" display, providing two megapixel image quality superior to today's one megapixel ultra high-resolution displays. The InterPro 3070 is the first workstation featuring a 27" color display with 2 megapixel resolution. It provides twice the area of a 19" display with twice the number of pixels. According to Bruce Imsand, Intergraph's Vice President of Systems Development, "Such a large screen displays greater portions of a design file with no loss in resolution, providing a substantial benefit in many large scale graphics applications such as geographic information systems processing, seismic trace display, mechanical and electronic design, industrial design and modeling, architectural modeling, and plant design." The 3070 also incorporates Intergraph's C300 CLIPPER, a second generation RISC (Reduced Instruction Set Computer) microprocessor with 10 MIPS (million instructions per second) performance. Software written for earlier CLIPPER-based workstations will run without modification on the 3070. As with all Intergraph workstations, Intergraph's industrial designers refined the ergonomics of the 3070 to provide comfortable, convenient operating conditions. The 3070 is priced at $56,000 and will be available in limited quantities in January 1989. Jim Meadlock, Chairman and President of Intergraph, comments "With this display technology we provide our customers with ease-of-use and productivity benefits available nowhere else in the industry. In the past and with this announcement, Intergraph continues to bring the best performing workstations to the marketplace, meeting more of the truly important industry standards than any other company in this business." Second Generation RISC Technology: Power for Complex and Large Scale Applications: Meadlock adds, "Intergraph's 3070 workstation represents the progress made by Intergraph's Advanced Processor Division (APD), formerly the APD division of Fairchild and acquired by Intergraph in the fall of 1987." Howard Sachs, Vice President of Intergraph APD, comments, "We have the most compact, high-performance RISC- based processor on the market. To date, Intergraph has installed more RISC processors than all other suppliers combined. We are now ready to ship our second generation products, and there will of course be future generations to follow with further improvements." With its high performance, three subsystem architecture, the 3070 speeds complex, large-scale computer applications. The 10 MIPS C300 CLIPPER is used in combination with a separate Intel 80386-based I/O processing unit and a separate graphics processing unit employing ten 32-bit VLSI processors. These processors are complemented by 16 megabytes of main memory, expandable to 80 megabytes, and a 355 megabyte internal hard disk drive. Further expansion to 4.7 Gigabytes is possible. The 3070's operating system is based on AT&T's UNIX<r> System V, Release 3.1 operating system, with Berkeley enhancements. The 3070 can simultaneously execute multiple software packages, including third-party applications, customer- developed applications, Intergraph applications, and MS-DOS applications. A variety of standard communications protocols are supported. Intergraph Corporation offers a product line ranging from microprocessor modules to workstations and complete application- specific systems for computer-aided engineering, design, manufacturing, and publishing. A "Fortune 500" company, Intergraph is the world's largest company dedicated to developing and manufacturing interactive computer graphics systems. ************************************************************************* Intergraph, InterPro and CLIPPER are registered trademarks of Intergraph Corporation.
