INTEGRATED SOLUTIONS LAUNCHES ADVANTEDGE 2000 WORKSTATION
SAN JOSE, Calif., December 12, 1988 -- Integrated Solu-
tions Inc., a designer and marketer of high-performance UNIX(t)
systems, today introduced the Advantedge 2000, the first worksta-
tion developed for the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and
systems integrator markets designed around Mips Computer Systems'
R2000 reduced instruction set computer (RISC) chip set.
Operating at 12 million instructions per second (MIPS),
the Advantedge 2000 is the fastest desktop workstation available.
At $12,000 for the base system, it also offers the most competi-
tive price/performance ratio in the workstation market -- $1,000
per MIPS. Yet the system is smaller than a personal computer.
Harvey Goldman, Integrated Solutions vice president of
marketing, said, "The Advantedge 2000 gives our customers an
'edge' -- technological leadership at a competitive price, plus
extraordinary power in a small package. Further, Advantedge 2000
enables OEMs, system integrators and value-added resellers (VARs)
to offer added performance and to bring UNIX-driven RISC products
to market quickly."
To meet the differing needs of OEMs, VARs and systems in-
tegrators, the Advantedge 2000 is available at various levels of
integration. These range from a stand-alone workstation confi-
guration down to the basic board level. The product can be
custom-packaged according to customer requirements.
Advantedge 2000 customers can choose between two UNIX
operating systems: Mips RISC/os(t) (UMIPS) or Integrated Solu-
tions' Dual Universe, featuring both UNIX 4.3BSD(t) and System
V.3.
Among Advantedge 2000's technical features: on board
32KBytes cache memory; 1280 x 1024 pixel graphics resolution;
on-board SCSI controller; Ethernet(t) controller; and an on-board
80186-compatible input/output processor.
Integrated Solutions offers hardware and software train-
ing and support tailored to the specific needs of OEMs, VARs and
system integrators. Repair and replacement also are available
on-site, or by mail.
The system is source-code compatible with Integrated
Solutions' Motorola-based systems. Integrated Solutions will also
provide an upgrade path for Advantedge customers to higher-
capacity peripherals or newer software releases.
A number of applications software packages are available
through Synthesis Software Solutions Inc., a company established
to provide application programs for Mips RISC-based systems.
Advantedge 2000 is shipping now at a price of $12,000 for
the base system -- including packaged base board and video board
-- to $24,500, depending on additional peripheral and memory
add-ons. A typically configured system, including the base system
plus 16-inch color monitor, keyboard, mouse, 100 MByte hard disk
drive and 40 MByte cartridge tape drive, would be $20,375.
The product also will benefit from Integrated Solutions'
broad real-time expertise, acquiring real-time capability in the
second quarter of 1989, when Integrated Solutions' UniWorks(t)
software will be ported to the system.
Integrated Solutions Inc., headquartered in San Jose,
Calif., was founded in 1981. The company has leveraged its exper-
tise on board-level products to enter the systems market with
VMEbus-based systems and UNIX workstations. Earlier this year In-
tegrated Solutions introduced hardware and software products in a
major commitment to the real-time market. Integrated Solutions is
a subsidiary of NBI Inc. of Boulder, Colo.
NBI Inc. designs, manufactures and markets computer sys-
tems and software products that address the information, manage-
ment and document processing needs of professionals and work
groups in the office. Its stock is listed on the New York Stock
Exchange and the Pacific Stock Exchange under the symbol "NBI".
