Intergraph Corporation Introduces New 3000-Series Products; 10-MIPS Processing Power Extended to Entire Product Range Huntsville, Alabama, January 6, 1989 -- Intergraph Corporation announced today a new line of workstations and servers, the 3000 Series. All powered by Intergraph's 10-MIPS C300 CLIPPER microprocessor, the 3000 Series offers full binary compatability, ensuring that software created on earlier generations of Intergraph workstations will run without modification. Current Intergraph 300 Series workstations can be field upgraded to 3000 Series specifications. The 3000 Series broadens the product line recently introduced by Intergraph's 3070 workstation with its large 27", 2 Megapixel display. Using an operating system based on UNIX System V, Release 3.1 (with full Berkeley extensions), the 3000 Series supports industry standard software for compilers, graphics, communications and file sharing. All of Intergraph's 3000 Series workstations are configured with separate CLIPPER CPU, Intel 80386 I/O processor, and custom graphics processors for maximum performance in all applications. The InterPro 3070 workstation (priced at $56,000) and other 3000 Series products (priced from $45,000) are available immediately. Configurations Offer Graphics Power With Ergonomic Flexibility The new workstation line offers various levels of graphics performance: the InterPro 3060 includes high-speed Gouraud shading, and the InterPro 3070 features the industry's first 27" 2 Megapixel display. Intergraph's 3000 Series workstations offer three proven ergonomic configurations, from the single-screen InterPro professional workstation to the dual-screen production-oriented InterAct and InterView workstations. The desktop monitor/keyboard module and deskside electronics modules optimize user convenience, making minimum demands on desk space. The InterPro 3000 Series electronics modules are configured in either 8-slot "suitcase" or 12-slot "lowboy" formats for expansion flexibility. Memory options for the 3000 Series range from 16MB to 112MB of main memory. Disk options can extend the InterPro's disk capacity from the standard 355MB or 670MB capacity up to 7GB. 3000 Series Servers Provide Additional Processing Power Intergraph's Series 3000 products also include two C300 CLIPPER-powered servers, the InterServe 3005 and InterServe 4000. The InterServe 3005, designed for shared compute and file server applications, is configured as a 19"-rack lowboy with 670MB to 6GB of disk capacity. The InterServe 4000, designed for very large shared compute, file and I/O operations, is a two-bay server providing 584MB to 23GB of disk memory. Flexible Architecture/Performance Retains Binary Compatibility Because Intergraph's workstation architecture includes three modular subsystems - the UNIX-based CPU, the graphics processor, and the I/O processor - the company is able to improve performance by upgrading any subsystem. The new 3000 Series is based on a 10-MIPS version of Intergraph's C300 CPU. In the future, enhancements to the CPU and the graphics subsystem will provide significant performance increases without impacting the other subsystems. This flexible system architecture, coupled with CLIPPER performance from 4 MIPS to 20 MIPS and full binary compatibility across the full product line offer a combination unique in the industry. Because users can tailor workstation and server performance to their specific job requirements, Intergraph's 3000 Series can deliver exceptional value to every customer. Future 3000 Series Products with 20 MIPS Performance The 3000 Series product line will continue to expand during the first half of 1989, featuring new products based on the Intergraph C300 CLIPPER microprocessor, with performance levels to 14 and 20 MIPS. Intergraph's continued commitment to full binary compatability will ensure that software from earlier systems will run on future models without modification.
