                      GRAFTEL INTRODUCES

THE EM100 ETHERNET COLOR HARDCOPY MANAGER

                SILICON GRAPHICS WORKSTATIONS

WILMINGTON, MA/MARCH 29, 1989 -- Graftel Systems, Inc. announces
the introduction of the EM100 Ethernet Color Hardcopy Manager,
the first complete solution for connecting Silicon Graphics
workstations to color hardcopy devices over an Ethernet network.
The system combines hardware and software to efficiently convert
color printers and film recorders into shared network resources.

Now every workstation on a TCP/IP thin or thick wire Ethernet
(IEEE 802.3) network has access to EM100 attached printers
to create colorful prints, overheads, or slides. The EM100
presently offers software support for Silicon Graphics
workstations and will support other major workstations soon.

Firmware drivers support thermal transfer color printers, ink-jet
color printers, and digital film recorders. The wide selection
of drivers means than any application package can support any
major color printer or a film recorder. Workstation images can
be recreated in color hardcopy with a simple mouse click or
command. And if the printer is busy, images are automatically
spooled for later printing.

The software is easy to install. The user interface consists of
intuitive pop-up menus that control screen printing, file
printing, printer selection, colors, and format. Simple commands
select and print any portion of the screen or any stored graphics
file with color resolution independent of screen limitations. In
addition, all system features can be accessed by typing on the
workstation's command line or by embedding commands in the
application software.

The EM100 offers an advanced combination of format and color
controls that tailor each print to precisely match user
requirements. Simple commands control windowing, image rotation,
image expansion, and the creation of multiple copies. The
system's processor handles all image computation, expansion, and
dot dithering.

The sophisticated color controls include: a full 24 bit color
data path, support for 16 million colors, gamma correction, and
variable pixel dithering patterns. The contrast, brightness,
color balance, and dither pattern controls create the precise
colors each image requires; i.e. pastels, flesh tones, or
brilliant saturated colors.

Each EM100 supports one thermal or ink-jet printer through its
high speed Centronics interface and one DC100 Digital Film
Recorder through its RS232 port. Support for a second printer
can be added by replacing the film recorder port with a second
Centronics interface. Users can connect new printers to the
network by simply attaching the printer to the EM100 and issuing
a single software command. Larger networks can simultaneously
support multiple output devices by attaching additional EM100's.

The complete EM100 system includes software drivers for Silicon
Graphics workstations, firmware drivers for many popular color
hardcopy devices, the processor unit with a high speed Centronics
port, and printer cable.

Graftel is offering the complete EM100 Ethernet Color Hardcopy
Manager system including a 10-user software license for $5,995.
As an introductory offer to USENET subscribers, orders received
before July 31, 1989 will include, at no charge, an upgrade to a
site license or a 10-user license for Sun workstations
(Sun workstation software available May 15, 1989).

Graftel Systems, Inc., a worldwide leader in the color hardcopy
market, sells and services a wide range of products for the
workstation and PC market. Other Graftel color hardcopy systems
include a family of video processors that drive color printers
from RGB video signals and a high resolution digital film
recorder.
