For Immediate Release NEW ISDN DEVELOPMENT TOOL WAS INTRODUCED AT ICA '89 Edmonton, Alberta, May 15, 1989...In Dallas, at the ICA exposition, IDACOM introduced the PT500, a NEW PROTOCOL TESTER for building the new generation of ISDN. It is a combination ISDN (Primary and Basic Rate Interfaces) and WAN protocol tester which provides multi-channel testing. Now that ISDN field trials have given way to actual ISDN implementation, there is a growing demand for new advanced ISDN products and services that are more complicated and have more features than the initial ISDN offerings. The PT500 is for developing these new ISDN products and services. The PT500's multi-channel architecture matches the structure of the ISDN protocol. In the ISDN environment, voice, data, and the signalling information is carried simultaneously, over the D and Bearer channels. The PT500 enables simultaneous and synchronized testing of multiple channels (up to six), providing a real-world ISDN environment for testing. The PT500 can be used to develop multiplexers, PABXs, switches, ISDN telephones and terminals, terminal adapters, Group IV Fax machines, protocol converters, gateways, PADS, communication controllers, ATMs, packet switch networks, proprietary protocol equipment, etc. Multi-channel architecture allows the PT500 to support unique applications, such as: - Fully testing both the subscriber and network side of a PABX, services and applications, simultaneously. - Emulating the full functions of an ISDN switch for testing an ISDN terminal. - Testing both sides of a protocol converter simultaneously, for example BISYNC to SNA, checking for real-time transit delays. The PT500 also features a very friendly user interface and a color display. ### Contact: Laura Robinson Jeff Plato Communications Specialist Technical Specialist (403)462-4545 laura@idacom.uucp jeff@idacom.uucp
