May 22, 1989 ...  The Santa Cruz Operation, Inc. announces first
customer shipments of SCO XENIX 386 Operating System Release 2.3.2
on 3.5" media for 386 Micro Channel-compatible systems.

The SCO XENIX 386 Operating System Release 2.3 is a fully
AT&T-licensed implementation of UNIX System V.  The SCO XENIX 386
Operating System contains the full set of utilities necessary to run
both XENIX and UNIX applications, administer the system, edit files,
and take full advantage of such features as demand paging, virtual
memory, 4 GBytes of linear address space, and 32-bit functionality.

Standard features include the ability to run XENIX and UNIX
binaries;  three command processors, sh, csh, and vsh;  vi and ed
editors;  electronic mail;  HoneyDanBer uucp and Micnet networking;
SCO MultiScreen virtual consoles configurable with programmable
function keys, including selectable colors and program access to the
hardware bit map;  support for serial and tape devices;  link kit
installable device drivers;  terminfo and termcap terminal
description databases;  mapchan 8-bit character path with mapping;
and remote console.

SCO XENIX System V Release 2.3 conforms to all major UNIX industry
standards to the degree to which they exist.  These include AT&T's
SVID (System V Interface Definition), IEEE POSIX, and merged
UNIX/XENIX.  

Changes incorporated in Release 2.3.2 include:

   - Support of SCSI through the Adaptec 1640 Host Adapter.
   - Support of non-IBM disk controllers.
   - Improved mouse/event driver performance.
   - Support added for Summagraphics bitpad.
   - Improved hardware handshaking for serial communications.
   - Improved parallel printer driver.
   - Performance improvements in the console driver.
   - Support files added for the modular console driver.
   - Improved buffer handling and error recovery on cartridge tape.
   - QIC-40 and Irwin mini-cartridge tape support added.
   - UUCP communications subsystem improvements.
