Device Independent Troff Postprocessor
for HP Printers -- Version 2.6
INTRODUCTION
JetRoff is the missing link between AT&T's Documenter's Workbench
release 2.0 (DWB) and your HP LaserJet Series II, LaserJet Plus, or
DeskJet printer. DWB is one of the most powerful publishing systems
available today. But DWB supports only very expensive typesetters.
JetRoff converts the device-independent output of DWB into the
specific commands and fonts for the HP printers.
Now you can produce professional quality publications at a price you
can afford. Buy AT&T's DWB from your UNIX vendor for around $200.
And buy JetRoff from us for $100. No expensive font cartridges are
necessary: JetRoff includes a generous selection of fonts. Total cost
to you is around $300. To get the same capabilities from another ven-
dor you would have to pay around $800 for the software and another
$400 for the fonts!*
REQUIREMENTS
JetRoff requires the following:
- The UNIX operating system.
- Documenter's Workbench release 2.0 troff.
- A C compiler for your computer.
- Three megabytes (6000 blocks) of disk space.
- An HP LaserJet Plus, Series II, DeskJet, or compatible printer.
At this time, JetRoff is known to compile and run on the 80386 and
80286, under UNIX System V.2 and V.3, Pyramid under BSD, AT&T 3B2's
and 3B20's under UNIX V.3, IBM PC/RT under AIX, Unisys 7000/40 under
BSD 4.3, and others.
FEATURES
The complete JetRoff version 2.6 distribution has the following
features:
- Converts troff documents for printing on HP printers.
- Supports the special characters and drawing commands needed for
the grap, pic, tbl, and eqn preprocessors.
- Has R, I, B, CW, S, SI, ST, H, HI, HB, and HD fonts, in sizes
4-40
- Has special accented characters conforming to EUUG standards.
- Can use HP compatible Soft Fonts.
- Automatically downloads glyphs as needed for best printing speed.
(except DeskJet).
- Prints in portrait or landscape orientations and can print multi-
ple logical pages per physical page.
- Handles letter, A4 and legal paper, multiple paper trays, and
manual feeding of selected pages.
- Can include PC Paint Plus, PC Paintbrush, MS Windows 2.0, TIFF,
and JetRoff bitmaps in documents via a simple macro. Users can
define other bitmap formats.
- Uses Automatic Adaptive Rasterization to handle complex pic
diagrams without causing HP's infamous ``21 ERROR''.
- Can print shaded and patterned rectangles.
- Includes a preprocessor for making floppy disk and mailing
labels.
- Includes a pretty printer for unformatted text (except DeskJet).
- Includes a fancy wall calendar printer (except DeskJet).
- Provided in C language source code for maximum portability to
your environment.
ORDERING INFORMATION
The complete source code and fonts for JetRoff are delivered on three
high density MS-DOS formatted floppy disks which you can transfer to
your UNIX computer using any convenient method.
For purposes of fair pricing, we define a ``Casual'' user as an indi-
vidual person who uses JetRoff on a personal computer and is not
engaged in any commercial, or government activity. All other users
are called ``Business'' users. Employees of any corporation, partner-
ship, proprietorship, or government which purchases JetRoff are Busi-
ness Users. Universities who use JetRoff on a multiuser computer are
Business Users.
Casual users pay $50 per licensed computer. Business users pay $100
per licensed computer. Purchase orders from major US corporations and
Universities will be accepted. Foreign orders are payable by a check
drawn on a U.S. bank or by international money order drawn in U.S.
dollars.
