July 26, 1989 - Austin, TX Dell Computer Corporation has been shipping, with its 386 systems, Dell UNIX System V/386 release 3.2 since April of this year. Included with the base system is VP/ix, which allows concurrent execution of MS-DOS applications. As of July, Dell began shipping the X Window System (version 11.3) with the OSF/Motif Window Manager. X and Motif are also included in the base system and are available as a free upgrade to current Dell UNIX customers. With its April delivery, Dell became the first company to ship a product using AT&T's UNIX trademark. This version of the UNIX system is fully compliant with AT&T's System V Interface Definition (SVID) and is also binary compatible with XENIX applications. Dell is the first company to make available the OSF/Motif Window Manager. The current product is based on OSF snapshot 7, the final version from OSF will be made available later this fall.
