MKS ANNOUNCES THE MKS TOOLKIT, Version 3.1

NOW SHIPPING FOR DOS OR OS/2

Waterloo, Ont. -- August 15, 1989 -- Mortice Kern Systems Inc. (MKS)
announced that the popular MKS Toolkit will ship version 3.1 today.
The MKS Toolkit provides users the best of both worlds -- virtually
unrestricted access to the power and the flexibility of the
UNIX System V.3 operating system, and full DOS or OS/2 capabilities.
The MKS Toolkit version 3.1 provides more than 150 programming tools.

STREAMLINED INSTALLATION

With new menu driven installation and configuration programs installation
of the MKS Toolkit is now a snap. Users never need partition hard drives
or "fix" .EXE files. It is possible to be up and running in under 10 minutes.

CUSTOMIZATION

While installation has been streamlined, users can still fine tune the
configuration of the MKS Toolkit to their needs and programming environment.
The easy installation in no way detracts from the ability to mould
each environment or to select what features are needed.

A NEW STANDARD IN TECHNICAL DOCUMENTATION

MKS delivers some of the best documentation in the industry.
The MKS Reference Manual offers expert users everything in a traditional
UNIX style of manual. All the commands are fully described and
explained with examples.

In addition to the 450 page Reference Manual there is a 260 page
MKS User's Guide which is completely dedicated to tutorial material.
Starting with an overview that introduces the novice to general
commands and file manipulation, the User's Guide also offers
full MKS AWK, MKS Korn Shell, and MKS VI tutorials.

MKS instruction materials open the world of programming,
shell scripts and text editing to the novice. MKS also has taken the
unprecedented step of explaining the structure and terminology
of sample UNIX style reference pages in easily understood terms for the novice.
A glossary is also provided to explain often-used terms,
and indexes help track down the commands and their descriptions.

CRITICAL POSIX COMPATIBLE SOFTWARE

The MKS Toolkit tracks the emerging POSIX Shells and Utilities Standard.
Developed and owned by MKS, the MKS Toolkit technology provides
VARS and OEMs with a non-AT&T derived implementation of the forthcoming
IEEE 1003.2 POSIX standard.

FEATURES OF RELEASE 3.1

TRANSIENT MKS Korn Shell

Users can now optionally enable a reloadable or transient MKS Korn Shell,
which means that the shell will use 64K less memory, leaving more memory
for other applications.

The MKS Korn Shell provides an ideal programmer's environment. All the
tools and capabilities are available to quickly write powerful shell
scripts that far surpass the abilities of command.com. Users can even
work with UNIX shell scripts.

The 3.1 MKS Korn Shell has been revised to encompass new functionality
from the 1988 version of the Korn Shell, as described in
"The Korn Shell Command And Programming Language"
by David Korn & Morris Bolsky, Prentice Hall, 1989.

MKS AWK

By popular demand, MKS is adding the large model and the floating point
versions of the MKS AWK programming and prototyping utility to the
MKS Toolkit. Now users will have the choice of four (4) versions of
MKS AWK to trade off speed with script complexity.
