NOTICE FOR ACADEMIC GROUPS INTERESTED
IN DISTRIBUTED PROCESSING

The following letter introduces the Netwise University
Grant Program. It has been sent to a variety of academic groups
via US Mail; however, it is also being posted online to notify any
groups that were not on the mailing list. For more information,
contact DEBRA FRANCES at (303) 442-8280, or write to the
address shown below.

Dear Academic Professional:

Netwise is introducing two programs for academic groups who are
working in the area of distributed processing. The Netwise
University Grant Program entitles qualified university groups to
receive free Netwise software development products. The Netwise
Academic Discount Program enables academic institutions to
purchase these products for only 25% of the list price.

About the Netwise RPC TOOL

Netwise is the leading independent software company producing
advanced multivendor network computing products. The initial
product, the Netwise RPC TOOL, provides advanced Remote
Procedure Call (RPC) technology for more than 30 hardware
platforms, major operating systems and most popular networks. The
RPC TOOL enables a programmer to build software applications that
span machines and operating environments, without having to write
the required network communications code.

The RPC TOOL accepts input in standard C language syntax and
generates tested, commented communications source code using the
operating system and network features available in your
environment. It uses a machine-independent, standards-based
encoding format for transmission of data across the network. The
extensive customization features of RPC TOOL enable considerable
flexibility in the design of distributed applications, including
asynchronous processing.

By using the RPC TOOL, programmers can accelerate their
distributed software development cycles, increase productivity,
access specialized resources or processors, develop easily portable
applications, reduce use of PC memory, and achieve interoperability
between different vendor products.

Versions of the Netwise RPC TOOL support a range of machine
architectures, including microcomputers, workstations,
minicomputers, mainframes and supercomputers. Support is
available for major operating systems, including DOS, OS/2, UNIX
(BSD and System V), XENIX, VS, VMS and MPE. Supported networks
include LAN Manager, TCP/IP, I*, DECnet, NetBIOS (XNS), NetWare and
NetIPC.

Netwise University Grant Program

If your university is actively involved in significant research or
development projects that require multivendor distributed
processing, you may qualify for the Netwise University Grant
Program. The program entitles you to free versions of the RPC TOOL
to support your development environment. Free product
documentation and free helpline support are included in this offer.
In return, Netwise requests each participant's assistance in the
form of feedback on the product and its effectiveness in furthering
your project.

To apply for participation in this program, please submit a proposal
to the University Grant Committee at Netwise. The proposal should
summarize the nature of your research and development activity,
explain how your work would benefit through the use of the RPC
TOOL, and list your network(s) and the hardware and operating
systems on each network. If you require more information about the
RPC TOOL, call Debra Frances at (303) 442-8280.

This opportunity is available for a limited time only. You will be
notified of acceptance into the Program following a 30-day review
cycle. Exceptions may be made for projects requiring a more timely
review.
