UNIX TO RECEIVE EXTENDED VMS COMPATIBILITY
AT UPCOMING DEXPO WEST SHOW IN ANAHEIM.

BOSTON BUSINESS COMPUTING WILL EXHIBIT NEW FAMILY
             OF VMS-COMPATIBLE SOFTWARE FOR UNIX.

ANDOVER, MASS., OCTOBER 4, 1989...Boston Business
Computing, Ltd., the leading developer of VMS-compatible
software, will exhibit three new VMS-compatible software
packages at DEXPO WEST, Booth 307, November 7-9. The software
packages, designed to help VMS users coexist with or move to
UNIX systems easily, include Vnet, Vmail, and Vbackup. These
new products will provide VMS compatibility across a spectrum
of applications: communications, electronic mail, and data
storage and retrieval.

"Combined with our flagship software, EDT+ and VCL, these
new products offer the most complete VMS-compatible software
solution available for UNIX today. Users can integrate UNIX
workstations over Ethernet using their existing DECnet network
and continue to work in a VMS-like environment on UNIX,"
stated BBC Marketing Manager Ed Gaudet. "Simply put, our
software saves management the time and cost of retraining, and
saves VMS users the frustration of learning UNIX."

Vmail is an emulation of the VMS MAIL interface for UNIX
systems. Vmail features over 90% of the VMS MAIL commands and
qualifiers including ANSWER, BACK, DELETE, COPY, CURRENT,
DIRECTORY, EDIT, ERASE, EXIT, EXTRACT, FILE, FIRST, FORWARD,
HELP, LAST, MAIL, MARK, MOVE, NEXT, PRINT, PURGE, QUIT, READ,
REPLY, SELECT, SEND, SET, SHOW, SPAWN, and UNMARK. With
Vmail, users can access distribution lists and send carbon
copies. Additionally, Vmail has commands not found in VMS
MAIL, such as CLEAR, CONNECT, PREVIOUS, SET AUTO_CONNECT, SET
WRAP, and WRITE.

Vnet extends the functionality of VCL by providing access
to DECnet via Ki Research's DEKnet software, an implementation
of DECnet for UNIX systems. Combined with VCL, Vnet supports
the following DCL commands over the network: Directory, Copy,
Create, Delete, Mail, Print, Rename, Submit/Remote, and Type.
With Vnet, UNIX systems act as full DECnet phase IV endnodes,
accessing VAX data files, storage facilities, and system
resources, such as printers.

Vbackup is an emulation of the VMS BACKUP utility for
UNIX systems. With Vbackup, users can read and write VMS
BACKUP tapes on a UNIX system using VMS syntax. Vbackup
qualifiers include BLOCKSIZE, BRIEF, CASE, COMMENT, CONFIRM,
CRC, DENSITY, DIRFILE, EXCLUDE, FORMFIX, FULL, GROUP_SIZE,
HIGHEST, INTERCHANGE, LINK, LIST, LOG, PVERSION, REPLACE,
REWIND, SELECT, TEXT, TREE, VERIFY, and VERSION.

Major enhancements to EDT+ and VCL are also scheduled to
be exhibited at DEXPO WEST. Shipping of the three new
products is scheduled for November. Prices are unavailable at
this time. Boston Business Computing products include a
30-day, money-back guarantee and free customer support and
updates for two months. An annual maintenance plan is
available. For more information, call Boston Business
Computing at (508) 470-0444.
