NEW OMNI 300 RISC SERVER (TM) ENABLES USERS
TO ADD SPARC STATIONS, CAN TRIPLE SERVER PERFORMANCE

December 6, 1989 -- Mountain View, California -- OMNI Solutions,
Inc., today introduced to owners of Sun servers the OMNI 300 RISC
Server that allow the additional installation of diskless or dataless
Sun SPARC workstations on existing servers while simultaneously
increasing performance by up to three times.

Until now, Sun file servers were unable to easily accommodate the
addition of workload-intensive SPARC or similar workstations because
network performance degraded measurably. Thus, users were forced to
add new servers at significant expense to meet user demand for new
higher power workstations. Now, with OMNI 300, companies adding
next generation Sun SPARC workstations to a network can do so without
the cost of additional servers. The OMNI 300 provides presently
installed Sun servers with real power to serve the newest RISC-based
workstations with a totally transparent solution.

Priced to accommodate network growth, the OMNI 300 RISC Server
combines software and hardware upgrades installed in Sun servers to
optimize internal operations and generate much higher performance. The
solution overcomes performance barriers in several ways, including
three times increase in NFS operations served per second, 2.5 times
improvement in response time by lowering I/O delays, a reduction of one
half of CPU real-time consumed by file and network handling, and
elimination of the need for as many as two additional servers. In
addition, concurrent/unattended disk backup eliminates administrative
downtime normally needed by network administrators.

"Sun has created a tremendous market need by increasing workstation
loads on the servers but not at the same time enhancing the
server's technology to cope," said Ron Cornell, OMNI Solutions
president. "The OMNI 300 product turns Sun file servers into Super
file servers that fully support SPARC workstation technology. The
OMNI/Sun combination offers price performance advantages unmatched by
any other company."

The OMNI 300 RISC Server consists of comprehensive network and file
optimizing software, coupled with special hardware VME boards,
developed in partnership with Interphase Corporation. The Interphase
Corporation, Dallas, Texas, is an investor in and a strategic partner
of OMNI, providing hardware development, manufacturing, and an OEM
sales channel for OMNI's technology.

The OMNI 300 is easy to install. Pricing for the product begins at
$20,000 and increases according to the number of Ethernet ports to be
supported by a single server. By comparison, to obtain nearly
equivalent performance by adding new file servers, a much greater
investment in new hardware and a time consuming network reorganization
would be required.

in Mountain View, California, 1-800-FAST-NET (1-800-327-8638).

OMNI Solutions, Inc., was founded in September 1988 by a former
Sun development executive, Dr. Ronald Cornell, and key technical
managers in server and communications development and marketing. OMNI
Solutions designs, manufactures and markets higher performance
workstation networking products based on an open systems design
strategy. The OMNI 300 RISC Server is the first in a family of server
enhancement and server system products to be available in 1990.
