ISLAND GRAPHICS INTRODUCES THE ISLAND OFFICE SERIES(tm) UNDER OSF/MOTIF(tm) AT UNIFORUM IslandWrite(tm), IslandPaint(tm) & IslandDraw(tm) Shown on HP's Apollo Personal Workstations and on HP 9000 Series 300 Workstations WASHINGTON, D.C. January 23, 1990 -- Island Graphics Corporation introduced its newest office publishing applica- tions, IslandWrite, IslandPaint, and IslandDraw under the X Window System-based OSF/Motif graphical user interface, at Uniforum today. The products, the first in the Island Office Series, were shown on HP's Apollo personal worksta- tions and HP 9000 Series 300 workstations in Island's booth (#3431) and in the Hewlett-Packard Company booth (#1835). "HP users shouldn't have to buy expensive tech-doc sys- tems just to write memos or create newsletters," said Paul Remer, Island's executive vice president. "Now they'll be able to get Island's write, paint and draw programs at PC and Mac software prices." The Island Office Series is intended to serve office publishing needs ranging from writing memos and letters to creating illustrated reports and newsletters. IslandWrite is a word processing and desktop publishing package that accepts graphics from IslandDraw, an object-oriented illus- tration package, and IslandPaint, a raster graphics editor. Each program provides PostScript(tm) output to laser printers and imagesetters. IslandWrite IslandWrite is a word processing and composition pro- gram that supports English, French, Italian and German text. It provides both writing and layout tools for creating freeform newsletters and structured documents. IslandWrite's word processing features include search and replace and spell checking in each supported language. Its typographic tools support automatic pair kerning, PostScript grey levels, and variable point sizes from 4 to 72. IslandWrite's structured document features allow users to create character and paragraph formats so they can make glo- bal changes in reports, specifications and technical docu- mentation. IslandWrite's layout tools let users create freeform pages and use multiple columns in the same docu- ment. IslandWrite can automatically hyphenate text as it flows around graphics or text in overlapping containers. IslandWrite lets users create rules and tint blocks in PostScript grey levels. Graphics from IslandDraw and IslandPaint can be imported or pasted directly into IslandWrite. IslandDraw IslandDraw is an object-oriented illustration program that lets users create technical diagrams, organization charts and other informational graphics to be imported into IslandWrite and other publishing programs. IslandDraw's state-of-the-art bezier curve manipulation also lets users create sophisticated illustrations. Drawn objects and text within IslandDraw can be rotated, scaled and flipped, arranged front to back, and grouped with other objects. IslandDraw's graphics can also be printed on overhead pro- jection materials via PostScript devices and used as presen- tation graphics. IslandPaint IslandPaint is a raster image editor which lets users edit TIFF images from scanners and clip art collections, and create original art. IslandPaint images can be imported into IslandWrite and other composition programs that accept TIFF files. Pricing and Availability The Island Office Series will be distributed by the Apollo Direct Channel beginning April 1, 1990, for the Apollo personal workstations, and July 1, 1990, for the HP Series 300 workstations. Apollo Direct is an after-market sales channel that enables Apollo users to select from a wide variety of products that add functionality to their - 4 - installed equipment. IslandWrite is priced at $595, while IslandPaint and IslandDraw can be purchased together for $495. The U.S. toll-free number for Apollo Direct is 1- 800-225-5290.
