                    Tek Launches TekXpress Family,
            Industry's Second-Generation Color X Stations

Wilsonville, OR., July 10, 1990 -- Tektronix Inc. today introduced
TekXpress, the industry's second-generation color X Station family. It
features an innovative ergonomic design, with a small footprint, a new
color matching system and the industry's first X Station three-year
warranty.

The XP25, XP27, and XP29 feature the TekColor Color Management System
(CMS), a method of color selection, editing and screen-to-printer color
matching based on Tek's TekHVC (hue, value, chroma) color model. In
addition to simplifying color selection and making its use more
intuitive for the user, TekColor CMS provides a match of screen colors
to printers and other peripherals. The TekHVC color model was developed
by Tek Labs and now is under technical review by the MIT X Consortium as
an extension to the X standard. The TekXpress family also includes the
XP23, a grayscale model with 16 shades of gray.

The vertical logic module, or central component, of the TekXpress family
is designed for convenient placement on a desk, floor or shelf. It
incorporates video, keyboard and mouse connections in a single ErgoCable
to clear desks of mutiple cables. The module is convection-cooled,
rather than fan-cooled, producing a silent, more reliable unit. In
contrast to other X terminals whose warranties last six months to a
year, all TekXpress X Stations come with three-year warranties.

Tek designed the new X Stations for applications including process
control, Computer-Aided Engineering, mapping, data analysis, transaction
processing and Computer-Aided Software Engineering. The TekXpress
family ranges from the 16-level grayscale XP23, at $3,495, to the
high-end color XP29, at $5,995; both feature a 19-inch screen with
resolution of 1280 by 1024. Mid-range members of the family are the two
color models with 1152 by 900 resolution, the 14-inch XP25 for $3,995,
and the 19-inch XP27, for $4,995.

In networking, the TekXpress family members support an environment of
software standards including TFTP, NFS, Ethernet with TCP/IP and
DECnet. These - along with the X11, Release 4 server - give TekXpress
users improved font downloading, more efficient memory consumption,
optimized speed, XDMCP support and access to various input extensions.
The server can be downloaded across the network or optionally loaded
from ROM. For ease of system setup, TekXpress provides a familiar,
Motif-like menu-driven user interface.

All TekXpress systems feature parallel processing based upon Motorola's
68030 and Texas Instruments' 34020, 3MB of memory expandable to 13MB,
thick and thin Ethernet with TCP/IP, and IBM 101-key keyboard and a
three-button mouse. Options for all products include DECnet, VT200
keyboards and an A-size tablet. The XP23 features 16 shades of gray;
the color models provide 256 displayable colors from a palette of 16.7
million.

Members of the TekXpress family will begin to ship in July. For further
