                        DIGITAL PRESS ANNOUNCES
                             PUBLICATION OF

                            X WINDOW SYSTEM
The Complete Reference to Xlib, Protocol, XLFD, ICCCM
                        X Version 11, Release 4
                            Second Edition

August 1990 - Digital Press announces the publication of X WINDOW
SYSTEM, Second Edition, by Robert Scheifler and James Gettys, with Jim
Flowers, Ron Newman and David Rosenthal.

Written by the people who designed and created the X Window System,
this newly updated reference tool consists of four main parts, each a
standard specification from the MIT X Consortium. All four parts
conform to the latest release X Version 11, Release 4.

PART I, Xlib - C Language X Interface, is a reference manual for Xlib
and describes the lowest level C language X programming interface to
the X Window System.

PART II, X Window System Protocol, is the specification of the X Window
System Protocol.

PART III, Inter-Client Communications Conventions Manual, describes the
conventions that govern X inter-client communication.

PART IV, X Logical Font Description, discusses the conventions for font
names and font properties in the X Window System.

By combining these four MIT X Consortium standards into one volume,
this book is the most complete and up-to-date X Window System reference
tool available. In addition, instructive diagrams, a detailed
glossary, and a comprehensive subject-oriented index enhance this
book's overall usefulness and value.

Significant changes from the First Edition include...
	- specification matches Release 4 of X Version 11 from MIT X
      Consortium
	- addition of the InterClient Communications Convention Manual
	- addition of the Logical Font description manual
	- addition/replacement of Xlib functions for support of the
      ICCCM

Robert Scheifler is the Director of the MIT X Consortium. He was
chief architech of the X Window System protocol and participated in the
design and implementation of the CLU and Argus programming languages
and systems. He received his BS in Mathemeatics and MS in Computer
Science from MIT.

James Gettys is a member of the Research Staff at Digital Equipment
Corporation's Cambridge Research Laboratory and was stationed at MIT
with Project Athena. He is a graduate of MIT.
