July 31, 1990 AT&T PRODUCT ANNOUNCEMENT OF GRAPHICAL OPEN LOOK BASED C DEBUGGER The GOLD Debugger is a powerful combination of a user- friendly, OPEN LOOKtm windowing user interface and the traditional UNIX System V debugger sdb. The GOLD windowing interface provides simultaneous access to debugging information and activities, such as source code, variable values, stack traces, hardware data registers, and breakpoint management. The GOLD interface is customizable, with all features accessible via buttons and menu commands. GOLD operates on either COFF (Common Object File Format) or ELF (Executable and Linking Format) files created with either the AT&T CSDS 4.1.6 Compiler or the AT&T SCDE 5.0/3 Compiler. The GOLD debugger supports multiple source code windows on- screen simultaneously. Windows can display either multiple views of the same file, or multiple files. Icons mark the current execution statement, and breakpoint locations. The debugger has an easy to use capability to locate function definitions quickly, plus regular expression searching and on-line help using standard OPEN LOOK GUI facilities. A simple macro language combines with the standard debugger command language to make GOLD's command set extensible. Debug both Graphical and Curses-based Applications. The GOLD debugger windows co-reside on the workspace with either OPEN LOOK, X Window System, or Xterm terminal emulation windows of the application. Features such as application and debugger event handling, debugger windows' size and color, and user-programmable command macros can be customized via "property windows". The GOLD product includes an enhanced version of the standard sdb debugger that uses i386 Debug registers for data monitoring. A "data breakpoint" can be set on any byte in memory to activate the debugger when the location is modified. Because the application runs at full speed while being monitored, a developer can quickly locate common C problems such as bad pointer references and array bounds violations. Standard GOLD Windows provide the following: o Source Code o Commands o Files List o Breakpoints (show, open, delete) List o Stack Trace o Variable Watch List o Message Log o Search o Property Windows (global, signals, windows,...) o Help (Context-Sensitive) ORDERING INFORMATION: 1331-070: AT&T GOLD DEBUGGER $595 For use with 6386WGS 25MHz and lower processors. As a component of the AT&T C Development Environment, GOLD is part of family of enhanced development tools geared to empowering the developer to work more productively. CDE includes tools for prototyping, compilation and build, code debugging, and re- engineering. These tools utilize user friendly windowing interfaces, where appropriate, and operate on both character- based and graphical platforms.
