Z/MAX XCHANGE
NEW STATE-OF-THE-ART
UNIX INFORMATION MANAGEMENT UTILITY LAUNCHED
CLAY, NEW YORK, August 1, 1990 -- Z/Max Computer Solutions, Inc., a
New York based UNIX software developer and distributor, has announced
the international introduction of Z/Max XChange -- a sophisticated yet
very "user - friendly" new type of information management utility
specifically developed for the UNIX operating system.
According to Joseph Rotella, Chief Executive Officer of Z/Max,
this new information management utility represents a sig- nificant
alternative to stand-alone bulletin board (BB) applica- tions. Unlike
traditional BB programs, Z/Max XChange utilizes pull-down menus,
pop-up windows and context-sensitive help, as well as graphical tree
forum diagrams which clearly locate and create access to specific
forums with a few simple key strokes.
"This type of graphical interface technoloy is not common to most DOS
based BB systems and is certainly a new addition to the world of UNIX
- based software applications", stated Mr. Rotella. "XChange truly
is a new breed of information management software because it combines
the latest technology in graphical user- interface management systems
with an organized method if informa- tion exchange capitalizing upon
the power of the multi-user, multi-tasking UNIX operating system."
Z/Max XChange was specifically developed for the UNIX operating system
and therefore takes full advantage of UNIX's I/O strength, security
protection, and true multi-user capacity. The power and flexibility
of Z/Max XChange as a true UNIX information manage- ment utility is
perhaps best illustrated by its unique special applications (Apps)
feature. This feature provides XChange users with a pop-up menu of
UNIX programs residing on the local UNIX system. This means that
users who have been granted permission can then execute a UNIX
application (like a spread sheet or a database program), work on it,
and then immediately return to XChange when finished... all without
any contact with the UNIX operating system.
XChange also offers full electronic mail (E-mail) capabilities,
real-time network conferencing, a full-featured file editor (with the
option of using your own editor if you choose), automatic error
recovery, and perhaps best of all -- it installs in just 10 minutes.
No prior knowledge of UNIX is required to load and operate this
powerful new UNIX utility. Context-sensitive help on every command
along with an extensive help menu (graphically structured) guarantees
that the end user will be using all of XChange's features in just a
few hours -- good news for system administrators who need to have
their jobs made easier, not harder!
This new program offers virtually any business or organization a
powerful and efficient new way to handle their information dis-
tribution requirements. Mr. Rotella, when asked about the type of
end-user XChange would benefit most, stated, "Z/Max XChange is
particularly suitable for corporate, educational, governmental and
public service organizations. Special features such as forum access
charges, time-based auto logoff and statistical user reports make
XChange versatile yet powerful enough for any organization's
information management needs. XChange was designed with the system
administrator in mind. System adminis- trators who have never before
used a commercial bulletin board program and yet have a need to
efficiently distribute information to their system users will find
XChange to be very valuable."
Z/Max XChange will initially be available for the following UNIX-based
computer systems: 80386 microsystems (AT&T, INTERAC- TIVE ARCHITECT
Series, SCO, and ESIX System V), AT&T 3B2 comput- ers, Data General
AViiON DG/UX, Sun SPARCstation 1, IBM and DEC systems. The company is
offering anyone interested in evaluating this new program the
opportunity to utilize the Z/Max special on-line evalutation service
by dialing (315) 622-4672 (for 9600 baud) or (315) 622-2892 (for 2400
baud). The caller should type "zmax" at the "login" prompt. When
prompted for a "password", the caller should then type "xchange".
Callers will be given a personal login and password that is validated
within 24 hours of their initial log in. After the 24-hour period,
they can then call back, log in under their new ID, and personally
evalute a full-featured version of XChange on their own terminal or
PC. For additional information on Z/Max XChange, call or write Z/Max
