[comp.newprod] PCUNIX/GD Giga Disc

) (11/01/90)

                 PCUNIX/GD - Product Description

PCUNIX/GD is a disc storage subsystem. The 'Giga Disc' product
relieves on-line storage problems with over a gigabyte of user
storage. The product is based on a Hewlett-Packard disc drive. The
quality, performance, and reliability of this unit are unmatched in
today's market.

PCUNIX/GD is implemented on Santa Cruz Operation(SCO)'S UNIX 386/V
Operating System. The block device driver is user-installable with
SCO's custom program. The use of an intelligent controller with a 64K
on-board cache maintains a high sustained data transfer rate.

Each configuration contains all components required for plug and play
installation. There are several choices for expanding the drive
configuration. A single controller will support both internal and
external drives at the same time. Each controller will support up to 6
drive units and each host system will support up to 2 controllers. The
internal subsystem includes a SCSI ribbon cable cable and rail kit.
The external subsystems include the drive(s) in an enclosure with
power supply. The external subsystems may be connected to the host via
a SCSI peripheral cable of up to six feet in length.

Options include: Internal Unit (single drive)
                      External Unit (single drive)
                      External Unit (multiple drives)
Hardware:

The Hewlett-Packard drive is a full-height, 5.25" unit and uses a SCSI-2
interface. The controller is Adaptec's AT/SCSI Host Adapter. It requires
one full-length slot.

Performance:
              Capacity (unformatted) 1.18 GB
              Capacity (formatted) 1.00 GB
Seek Time(track to track) 3.5 ms.
              Average Seek Time 17.5 ms
              Latency 7.5 ms.
              Channel Transfer Rate 1.5 MB/sec.
              Rotational Speed 4002 rpm.

Reliability:

Hewlett-Packard's name has long been synonymous with quality products.
This unit continues that tradition with impressive features. For
example, the Mean Time Between Failure(MTBF) is 150,000 hours. HP
demonstrates their confidence in this unit with a five year warranty.
