WILMINGTON, N.C. OCT. 9, 1990 -- Users of NeXT machines will soon be able to receive, transmit, and edit facsimile text and graphics, thanks to the DoveFax NeXT, the first integrated data and fax modem specifically designed for NeXT machines. The new product, which will have a suggested list price of $499 or $899, depending on configuration, was announced today by Dove Computer Corporation, of Wilmington, NC. Dove is a leading manufacturer of productivity enhancement products for the Macintosh. The basic DoveFax will retail for $499. A version with OCR Servant Software from HSD Microcomputer U.S. Inc., of Mountain View, CA, will retail for $899. With OCRServant Software, users will be able to edit text on-screen in their received-fax, since the software automatically converts any fax image to editable text. DoveFax NeXT consolidates fax and data modem capability, and operates at a 9600 baud fax speed and a 2400 baud data modem speed on all NeXT systems. "The unprecedented success of the company's DoveFax for the Macintosh, introduced earlier this year, has led to the company's move to other platforms," stated Pat Dane, Vice President of Marketing and Strategic Development. "We're excited to be one of the first Macintosh developers to move into the NeXT community." David Peter, President of HSD U.S., noted that the OCR Servant Software will provide DoveFax NeXT users with top-of-the-line fax/edit capability at "a very low price." By connecting a DoveFax modem to a NeXT system, Dane said, any document that can be printed can also be faxed. In addition, because the pages are imaged from the PostScript code instead of scanned from paper, the resulting faxes are much more legible than ordinary fax transmissions. The NeXT FaxReader application presents an easy way to view, print and delete received faxes, he added. The DoveFax combines many features found on high-end faxes and the industry-standard Hayes data modem. Features include automatic answer (which lets you receive faxes without interruption); redialing (which guarantees fast delivery); and a menu-driven interface that reduces steps to send a fax. Dane stated that Dove is so confident of the new product that it will offer users a 30-day trial period. "If not satisfied, they can return it to Dove for a full refund," he said. DoveFax NeXT is available through resellers and direct from Dove, 1-800-622-7627. Dove Computer Corporation is a privately held company specializing in productivity enhancement products for the personal computer industry. -- -------------------------------------------------------------------- Craig Goss UUCP: uunet!bandw!craig B&W Software Moretown, VT -------------------------------------------------------------------- Contact: Chad Hill Hill Communications 415-945-7910 PatrickDane Dove Computer Corp. 800-622-7627 Ext. 261
