Alameda, CA, - A dual display color X terminal was
announced today by Jupiter Systems. Featuring the same high performance of
Jupiter's Model 410 color X Window Display Station, the Model 412
supports two 19", 1280x1024 monitors with a single keyboard and
mouse providing twice the display area of any other X Window Display
Station.

Model 412 was designed for applications requiring fast display of
large amounts of data and full access to that data by an individual
user. As the user moves the cursor off the boundary of one display it
immediately appears on the other display, providing easy access to all
windows on both screens. "The Model 412 is ideal for applications
such as process control, seismic analysis, medical imaging and
financial trading. The 412 can also greatly increase user
productivity in other areas such as software development and CAE",
said Bill Schindler, Jupiter's Director of Sales and Marketing.

Based on the architecture of Jupiter's Model 410 X Window Display
Station, the 412 utilizes a 25MHz 68030 CPU and two display controllers,
each with its own color look-up-table and graphics accelerator. The
highly optimized X11 R.4 server software provides full support of the
X Window System including XDMCP (X display manager control protocol),
SHAPE for non-rectangular windows, Telnet, backing store and save
under.

Special features include hardware zoom, support of 12-bit image data,
memory expandable to 16MB and arithmetic pixops. The 19" monitors use
an INVAR shadow mask with dynamic focus and a contrast-enhancing,
anti-reflective coating. "Many of our customers are in imaging
applications and require extremely high quality monitors. The
monitors we use display sharp bright pixels against a very black
background providing the finest image quality available on the market
today", said Schindler.

Model 412 provides both regular and thin Ethernet connections and
supports TCP/IP. DECNet is scheduled for release in early 1991. NFS
or FTP can be used for booting and font service. Model 412 works with
any X graphical user interface including OSF/MOTIF, OPENLOOK and
DECwindows.

Available 45 days after receipt of order, the Model 412 is priced much
lower than comparably configured workstations. "Model 412 offers the
look and feel found only in the most expensive workstations. With
performance rated at over 36,000 Xstones we offer our customers the
power they require for running multiple sessions from multiple host
computers," said Schindler.

Jupiter Systems, located on the island of Alameda in the San Francisco
Bay, has been manufacturing and selling high performance color
graphics systems since 1982. For more information on the Model 412 or
