Eiffel Outlook, a new newsletter Feb. 5, 1991 I'm proud to announce the formal launch of a newsletter devoted to Eiffel, the highly regarded object-oriented language. Called "Eiffel Outlook", the newsletter is the independent source for the international Eiffel community, with news, features and discussions of the practical issues involved in the successful use of Eiffel and closely related languages. Rock Solid Software of Austin, Texas will publish "Eiffel Outlook" six times a year, beginning with the April/May 1991 issue. Each issue will be 16 to 20 pages long. Of course, "Eiffel Outlook" will grow in size and frequency as the needs of the Eiffel community evolve. In every issue, "Eiffel Outlook" will present information that will enhance users' knowledge and enjoyment of Eiffel. Consider the following planned columns: User Profiles. In-depth looks at real world uses of object-oriented development including valuable insights. Current Events. Covering topics such as: * NICE, the Eiffel consortium * Sather, the Eiffel-like language from the International Computer Science Institute at Berkeley * Activities of the the Eiffel users groups * New Product Announcements and Progress Reports * Current Research involving Eiffel or Sather Nuts and Bolts. Small classes or class extensions, often reusing system libraries or other C interfaces. Girders and Beams. Class examples chosen to illustrate important coding techniques, and for general reuse. Standard Components. Detailed examination of the use of classes available in various Eiffel and Sather libraries. BluePrints. Important discussions about object-oriented analysis and design practice with practical examples. Of course, "Eiffel Outlook" will emphasize compilers, tools, and libraries available from points around the globe and on every type of computer. As an independent source, we will encourage excellence from the vendors of such products by providing critical and honest evaluations of their efforts. We will encourage fulfillment of the inherent promise of large scale, high quality software production. Call, write, or email me for the "Eiffel Outlook" announcement flyer and subscription offer. Media kits are available for advertisers interested in reaching the growing Eiffel market. And please let us know if you want to contribute articles, code, or news to "Eiffel Outlook".
