AlterNet Provides TCP/IP Service in 300 Cities Nationwide UUNET Technologies, Inc. now offers 56 Kbps TCP/IP service in approximately 300 cities in the continental United States through UUNET's AlterNet networking service. AlterNet's 56 Kbps service gives the customer nationwide networking capabilities at a fraction of the cost of setting up their own lines. 56 Kbps service is available at all continental U.S. locations where US Sprint provides Digital Data Service (DDS). Sprint provides DDS in approximately 300 cities, including all major metropolitan areas. 56 Kbps AlterNet service costs $1,000 per month plus the cost of the local loop. Other speeds are available at prices ranging from $2,000 to $250 per month. UUNET offers customers services such as electronic mail and USENET news, connectivity to thousands of sites around the world, ftp and telnet access, access to 1.5 Gigabytes of public domain software, and global connectivity.
