TEKTRONIX UNVEILS INDUSTRY'S FIRST PEX TERMINAL Targets Application Developers Wilsonville, Ore. -- Tektronix Inc. has introduced the industry's first PEX terminal, the TekXpress XP29P, designed for the development of distributed 2D and 3D applications. PEX (PHIGS Extension to X) is an addition to the X Window System that supports the processing and display of 2D and 3D graphics in a window. Tek's PEX terminal is based on the MIT X Consortium's initial PEX5R1 release and supports version 5.0P of the PEX protocol. Tek has enhanced the rendering capabilities of the initial MIT release to include: o Gouraud shading o HLHSR (hidden line, hidden surface removal) via Z-buffering o double buffering o dithering o complex fill-area (polygon) primitives The XP29P is targeted at application developers working in the areas of 2D applications (earth resources and design drafting) and 3D applications (MCAE, visualization, simulation and modeling). It is also targeted at software developers interested in building graphics software development libraries, computer hardware suppliers that offer high-end servers with limited graphics capabilities, and researchers at government and corporate R&D labs developing distributed graphics applications. The XP29P features a multiple-processor architecture that incorporates Motorola's 68030 for network traffic, along with Texas Instruments' 34020 graphics coprocessor and 34082 floating point processor for image rendering. The XP29P comes standard with 7 MBytes of memory expandable to 39 MBytes, 128 KBytes ROM, an IBM 101-key or VT200 keyboard, and a three-button mouse. The XP29P features a state-of-the-art 19-inch Panasonic monitor with 1280x1024 resolution, .28mm dot pitch, and 256 colors displayable from a pallette of 16.7 million. Prices for the XP29P start at $6,995. For more information contact: Drew Davis, drewd@orca.WV.TEK.COM
