"Besides demonstrating our commitment to working with application software developers, this new promotional program is designed to attract both corporate and small business users by showcasing our proven, high-performance operating system's advanced features and the benefits of Lotus Magellan's utilities -- at a price/performance level that is simply unrivaled in the industry." DR DOS 5.0 Features: DR DOS 5.0, which began shipping in June 1990, is the most technologically advanced implementation of the DOS operating system available today. In fact, it recently won a 1990 Byte Award of Distinction and was honored as a finalist in PC Magazine's coveted 1990 Technical Excellence Awards. Fully compatible with DOS applications, DR DOS solves the critical "RAM Cram" dilemma faced by many of today's PC power users by freeing up to 620 kilobytes or more of conventional memory for direct use by applications and networking facilities. Particularly important for network and portable computer users are DR DOS features such as MemoryMAX, a sophisticated memory manager; BatteryMAX, a powerful management feature that enables OEMs to significantly increase the battery life of laptops and portable computers; FileLINK, a powerful file transfer utility that eliminates the need by portable computer users to purchase compatible floppy drives just for file transfer; and "ROMability," which enables DR DOS to reside in and execute from a ROM chip. DR DOS 5.0 also includes extensive on-line help menus, built-in data security features, and a graphical user interface ability to interactively access application files. Lotus Magellan Features: Lotus Magellan 2.0 is a powerful, intuitive utility program that complements and enhances DR DOS 5.0 's performance and functionality. In addition to superior file search and view capabilities, an undelete function and virus protection, Lotus Magellan offers PKZIP file compression that shrinks the amount of space files require by up to 50 percent, viewer technology that lets users see files from more than 40 applications in their native format, and simplified backup and restore capabilities. "DR DOS 5.0 and Lotus Magellan 2.0 represent significant innovations in system management," said Woody Benson, Lotus director of distribution management. "This cooperative offering reflects the shared goal of Lotus and Digital Research to continue to bring new capabilities for users in the DOS environment."
