ADVANCED DOS OPERATING SYSTEM

LIMITED-TIME PROGRAM ALSO INCLUDES LOTUS MAGELLAN UTILITIES OFFER

MONTEREY, CA --Digital Research Inc. recently announced a new
limited-time promotional program featuring an upgrade offer on its
award-winning DR DOS (dee-arr dos) 5.0 operating system. Through
aggressive pricing and a special offer for the powerful Lotus Magellan

the more advanced DR DOS 5.0, as well as attracting new corporate and
government customers with competitive volume licensing terms. The
promotional program will be available in the U.S. and Canada through
May, 1991.

The promotional program includes the DR DOS 5.0 Upgrade and Gold Disk
options. Both options include DR DOS 5.0, the powerful DOS-compatible
operating system that has set the standard for DOS performance and
features since its release in June 1990. Also included is a coupon
good for a copy of Lotus Magellan 2.0, the innovative utility package
that enables users to easily find and view information no matter where
it is located on their hard disk or network file server, to recover
deleted files, and to check for possible file corruption due to a
virus. The Magellan offer is only available directly from Digital
Research.

corporate users receive a master disk for copying purposes, as well as
quick reference guides for each user. The offer for Lotus Magellan is

Software Spectrum, which sold a 14,500-user site license agreement to
a leading government regulatory agency.

To date, more than 5,000 distributors and resellers are carrying DR
DOS 5.0, including the top corporate resellers such as Corporate
Software, SoftMart, Software Spectrum, OmniVAR, and 800 Software. "DR
DOS 5.0 has quickly established a reputation as the premier personal
computer operating system due to its superior capabilities compared
with Microsoft's MS-DOS," explains Dick Williams, president and CEO,
Digital Research Inc. "Besides demonstrating our commitment to
working with application software developers, this new promotional
program is designed to attract both corporate and small business users
by showcasing our proven, high-performance operating system's advanced
features and the benefits of Lotus Magellan's utilities -- at a
price/performance level that is simply unrivaled in the industry."

DR DOS 5.0 Features:
DR DOS 5.0, which began shipping in June 1990, is the most
technologically advanced implementation of the DOS operating system
available today. In fact, it recently won a 1990 Byte Award of
Distinction and was honored as a finalist in PC Magazine's coveted
1990 Technical Excellence Awards. Fully compatible with DOS
applications, DR DOS solves the critical "RAM Cram" dilemma faced by
many of today's PC power users by freeing up to 620 kilobytes or more
of conventional memory for direct use by applications and networking
facilities. Particularly important for network and portable computer
users are DR DOS features such as MemoryMAX, a sophisticated memory
manager; BatteryMAX, a powerful management feature that enables OEMs
to significantly increase the battery life of laptops and portable
computers; FileLINK, a powerful file transfer utility that eliminates
the need by portable computer users to purchase compatible floppy
drives just for file transfer; and "ROMability," which enables DR DOS
to reside in and execute from a ROM chip. DR DOS 5.0 also includes
extensive on-line help menus, built-in data security features, and a
graphical user interface ability to interactively access application
files.

Lotus Magellan Features:
Lotus Magellan 2.0 is a powerful, intuitive utility program that
complements and enhances DR DOS 5.0 's performance and functionality.
In addition to superior file search and view capabilities, an undelete
function and virus protection, Lotus Magellan offers PKZIP file
compression that shrinks the amount of space files require by up to 50
percent, viewer technology that lets users see files from more than 40
applications in their native format, and simplified backup and restore
capabilities.

"DR DOS 5.0 and Lotus Magellan 2.0 represent significant innovations
in system management," said Woody Benson, Lotus director of
distribution management. "This cooperative offering reflects the
shared goal of Lotus and Digital Research to continue to bring new
capabilities for users in the DOS environment."
