Madison, WI. May 1, 1991- Heurikon Corporation announces the
availability of the industry's lowest cost 68030 VMEbus CPU board.
Known as the HK68/V3D, a base configuration with 2 Mbytes of memory
has a list price of $1795. Included as part of an introductory
promotion to highlight the quality of the V3D, will be a free second
year of warranty service. "The price/performance of the V3D better
serves the needs of the volume OEM than expensive UNIX RISC VME
boards," stated Abe Hirsch, Director of Marketing. He adds, "Design-in
opportunities for the '030 are growing rapidly and Heurikon will win
more of them with the advantages of both software support and price."
The V3D is first in a new series of value priced products that will
include '020 and '040 boards.
The board features a clock frequency of 33-MHz, 2-16 Mbytes of static
column dynamic RAM and optional Ethernet and SCSI controllers. The
board also includes 128 bytes of nonvolatile RAM and sockets for two 1
M x 8 bit EPROMs. Available operating system software support from
Heurikon includes VxWorks 5.0 and OS-9 2.4, as well as the H-bug
on-board monitor.
To facilitate cost-effective, high-speed memory access, the HK68/V3D
provides either 2, 4, or 16 Mbytes of static column dynamic RAM.
Because the static column mode supports burst transfers, the overhead
associated with refilling the 68030's on-chip cache from main memory
is greatly reduced. For applications such as image processing and
simulation that use large vectors and arrays, this feature enables the
HK68/V3D to achieve the memory access performance of boards based on a
second level cache and static RAM at a fraction of the cost.
Additional memory support for the HK68/V3D includes 128 bytes of
nonvolatile RAM, which may be used for storing user definable data
such as default baud rates, hardware/software revision levels, and
system configuration information.
The HK68/V3D's optional Ethernet controller is based on Intel's 82596
Ethernet LAN processor with built-in 32-bit DMA capability, making it
the fastest Ethernet device available. Ethernet software support
includes the TCP/IP protocol and Sun's Network File System (NFS).
The HK68/V3D's optional SCSI controller is based on Western Digital's
ANSI-compatible WD33C93, which provides 1.5 Mbyte/sec asynchronous and
2 Mbyte/sec synchronous transfer rates. Other I/O features include
two RS-232C serial ports. The board's front panel provides a three
position Abort/Reset switch which allows resetting the board without
resetting the entire chassis. A user programmable seven-segment LED
allows user defined diagnostic codes to be displayed on the front
panel.
The HK68/V3D with 2 Mbytes of DRAM costs $1795. The HK68/V3D with 4
Mbytes of DRAM costs $1995. The HK68/V3D with 16 Mbytes of DRAM costs
$3995. Boards are available immediately. Until June 30, 1992,
Heurikon is offering customers of the V3D a free second year of
warranty service beyond Heurikon's normal one year warranty. The
increased quality is a result of surface mount technology, a
significant reduction of the parts count through the use of ASICS, and
improved manufacturing quality processes.
