NEW BOOK ON MOTIF PROGRAMMING IN THE X WINDOW SYSTEM

Power Programming Motif
Eric F. Johnson and Kevin Reichard
MIS: Press, 1991
Portland, Oregon

ISBN 1-55828-059-6 (book)
ISBN 1-55828-061-8 (book with disk)

Like our earlier books, X Window Applications Programming and Advanced
X Window Applications Programming, Power Programming Motif is full of
source code examples that show how the concepts introduced in each
chapter actually work. Kevin Reichard and I both believe that it is a
lot easier to learn how to program something when you have a lot of
working programs as examples. Our books are not treatises or
references on Motif, instead, we focus on what you really need to know
(IMHO) to write Motif applications. So, you won't get a description
of every single Motif function. What you will get is a description of
the most commonly-used (and most important) calls, as well as
information on how to put together working Motif programs.

We start out slowly and build up to completing a full Motif
application. The book includes extensive sections on setting
resources in resource files-- an often-confusing aspect of Motif and
X--and following the Motif style guide when creating applications.

An abbreviated table of contents follows:
