[comp.society] Computer Networking for Children

[Article from CRTNET, September 23, 1987, Number 99]

Hi!

I'm Warren Baker from the Dept. of Sociology at the University of Victoria.
I volunteered some time to help a school (grades 1 - 7) get set up so their
children could contact people (via computer) in other cities, countries,
and other cultures and learn about them. Perhaps children can influence
parents in a positive way and as they are insulated against stereotypes,
this will be a small effort towards peaceful coexistence.

At this point the school has the hardware and I have secured a commercial
account and permission from the director of the computer centre to make a
few contacts, as long as I do some communications research on the project,
in line with IBM's Network requirements. In other words we are ready to roll.
Would you be interested in being a contact person (very little work
involved!) or do you know of any children who could be involved in this?
We are seeking adults working in various research fields, as well as other
children to make contact with. Please give it your consideration....

	Cheers!!
