- - - CORPORATE AMERICA BURIED IN PAPER GLUT There is the equivalent of a four-drawer file cabinet filled with 18,000 pieces of paper for every white-collar worker in the United States. Furthermore, each cabinet of files costs companies $25,000 to print and process and another $2,160 annually to maintain. The result is that America is burying itslef in a $100,000 billion mound of paperwork -- some 30 billion pages of original documents a year. Computers and copiers are the primary cause of the burgeoning paper glut, author Dianna Booher says in PERSONNEL JOURNAL. Today's technology makes it eask to create and distribute multiple copies of even the most trivial documents, she says. Employees looking for praise or to avoid responsibility may also be excessive paper producers, as are many memo writters. (From INSIGHT, February 1988) G O O D H E A V E N S !!!! What about us???
